Eight Months Old

sweet girl :)

Length: 27.25 inches
Weight: 17 pounds

Likes:
-Food.  This love affair with food is getting so passionate I think it might deserve a later post all to itself.
-Drinks.  She's always grabbing at our drinks and whines when she can't reach it. And she goes positively nuts when she sees her bottle and has to wait even a split second to get her hands on it.
-Elijah.  It was so cute to see them together. He really could calm her/distract her when she got all worked up. He's a baby whisperer in the making.
-The butterfly mobile above her crib.  Without fail when I walk over to lay her in her crib she reaches her hands up to touch the butterflies. They're just out of her reach when she's in my arms so I have to give her a boost and she lets them flutter across her fingers with an open mouth of fascination. I seriously can't resist kissing her cheek as she gazes at them. It melts my heart every time.
-Her pack-n-play.  We just moved it out to the main room so she has a place to sit and play and watch what's going on around the room. She's a happy camper in there up to a certain point, then she wants more of our attention.
-Making smacking noises with her mouth.  It's not a hunger thing, she just smacks and chomps along with her hums and babbles. I think she really entertains herself with the noises she can make.
-Doing "giddy-up, giddy-up" on my bouncing knees.
-Her pink giraffe that plays "rock-a-bye-baby" to her in her crib.  I wind it up and place it in her arms, then she either fiddles with its tail or chews on its ears and she's asleep within two minutes. It's too bad I didn't bring it on our last trip to CA, I wonder if it would have helped...
-Praise Baby DVDs.  I haven't used the TV babysitter very often, but when I do she sure is captivated. I like the praise music, but they sure are funny to watch. The scenes vary from a toddler bouncing a ball to a close up of a flower to the number 123 written in the clouds. She digs it though, and it gives me 30 minutes to do something crazy like clean the windows. (It's amazing what a difference clean windows can make!) Today she was cute sitting in her bumbo with Sophie on her lap watching the kids on the screen and turning her head every once it a while to find me and assure herself that I was close enough.

Dislikes:
-Time changes.  The three hour time change between here and CA didn't result in a happy baby for the first couple days. She was just all thrown off. Coming back wasn't as bad, she just did her typical sleep-the-entire-day-after-traveling thing and she settled back in to her normal routine. She's still waking more often at night than she did before the trip though...
-Waiting for food.  Once she's in her high chair you better be ready to get a spoon in her mouth instantly or she will wail. It's a little crazy.
-Tummy time, weight on legs, movement in general...same old, same old. Propelling herself by her own power is just not her thing. Don't hold your breath for crawling making it to the accomplishments list any time soon.

Accomplishments:
-Reaches for people, or anything she wants.
-Sits hands free and plays with her toys. She can even reach for ones near her without toppling.
-Feeds herself cereal puffs. She prefers to have them dropped in her open mouth like grapes, but I'm making her work for her food now, and she's getting it :)
-Let's other people hold her! She is seriously doing so much better in this department. Spending time with our families in CA must have assured her that there are other friendly people out there besides mom and dad. She has now been to 4 days of BSF, the nursery at church, and the child care room at the gym (don't panic: it's clean, there are hardly any other kids, and Ms. Cheryl is super sweet). All of this with barely any crying! She even cracks a smile and plays a bit, so I'm told :)

Memories:
-Taking her to the cabin for the first time. Boat rides, sitting on the deck, swinging in the hammock, and  spending time with our families = good times, great memories.
-Meeting two more great-grandmas!
-Meeting Sonya, Tom, and Elijah.
-Playing under the sheets on my bed. She loved being in our own little tent.
-Cracking up at her enthusiastic avocado eating. I'll have to post the video. She really is such a good eater. It always impresses us and makes us laugh.
-Going to her first birthday party for one of her little friends. I can't believe that we'll be throwing one in just four months!

I love the faces down the right side!

She was all about her arms this month.
Top left: her version of Blue Steel.
Bottom left: trying to convince you that it's muscles not chub.
And what's up with that bottom right one? Word.

CA Loving

So, Ryan and I both agree that our ten day trip to CA (with Ryan taking five of those days to go to Seattle and climb Mt Rainier) felt like a whole month of vacation. That must be the sign of a great trip. The best part was getting to blend our families together for a good portion of it! My family got to spend several days with Ryan's mom, grandma, and sister's family up at our cabin over my birthday weekend. And we followed it with another couple days in Riverside with them before they headed home. Audrey hadn't met her great-grandma, aunt, uncle, or cousin yet, so it was awesome to make those introductions. Thankfully, they all survived the slightly warmer temperatures than what they're used to in Alaska :) I seriously love that both sides of our family get along so well and can laugh and tease like one big happy family. Many of them hadn't seen each other since our wedding, but you never would have guessed it.
After they left (deciding they had had enough of the blazing CA weather) my grandma and aunt came over from Arizona (to cool off :). Neither of them had met Audrey either, and it was so good to have time to catch up with them.

I'm just going to let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

We loved our boat rides (even when it got a little windy :)

Birthday morning with my girl.
We took the boat over to town for a waffle brunch. Birthday girl request!

When you turn 30 you get two cakes! Thanks Denise for teaching me all your yummy secrets.
And my dad thanks you for the frosting :)
